It’s our first house. I’m an interior design major in college (senior), but I can’t make up my mind about my own house =/ I want semi-gloss so it’s easier to clean & reflects light better, making it look brighter.

I was thinking like a light slate blue, light sage green, or pale yellow.
My husband and I like colors from nature… which actually defines a lot. But we like light, slate blues, sage green, browns & tans (as accent colors). We like leaves and flowers (not floral wallpaper & fabrics though– yuck). The kitchen is next to the living room. We’re doing all those colors in our living room.

We have flat paint on the walls in our apartment now & the paint on the walls in the kitchen is a pain & the butt to clean! We WANT semi-gloss.

Do you have any ideas as far as what you want to paint the other rooms, particularly the room next to the kitchen? The house looks like it has a fairly open floor plan, so I’d choose colors that complement one another and flow well. For example, if I chose to paint the kitchen a pale yellow, I’d do the room next to it in sage green because in my opinion, those colors look nice together. I think yellow is nice for a kitchen because it is bright and happy and people tend to spend a lot of time there. You also may want to take your appliances and kitchen decorations into consideration if you care about that sort of thing. Personally, I don’t care if my things match, but to each his own.

p.s. You have a cute kitty.

all really nice colors but really out done and scream- early 2000(as a design student you already know that though) 1st we’re gonna address the finish of paint please rethink the semi-gloss a flat enamel(eggshell) will give you the easy clean up and slight sheen with out the garish glare semi glosses often cast.okay now color-as i’m sure you know dessert sky colors are the “in” colors right now bright oranges to subtle taupe’s to pale golds to sand .if you go with the right tone (use your paint color wheel)you’ll still have the brightness you’re looking for.i’d think about adding a 2nd color in your back splash area in the deepest tone of the color you choose to add some depth.hope this helps-congratulations on your new home its a great place and i wish you many happy years there

Light slate blue, light sage green. Both are nice and will work well with the orangy cabinet color. What ever you do, please don’t use that pale yellow with those orangy cabinets, ugh.

I will suggest that whatever color you choose, don’t pick it because it is the “in” trendy color; pick your color because you like it and because it’s your style. People with a true sense of style have no need to be trendy and their designs/colors will pass the test of time. Congratulations on your new home and best wishes on whatever color you choose!

play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to help you imagine how the colors will look together. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the “painted” rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I think “dry dock” (# 7502) might be a good choice.

You can take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:
You can get color suggestions & for $5 they’ll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.
